Lifespan Recovery ManagementA cognitive-behavioral (SMART) or spiritual (12-step) path to recovery
I’ve developed “Lifespan Recovery Management” as a strategy that treats addiction close to home and over time. “Close to home” means that families can participate and services are easily accessible. The process starts with an assessment. An assessment determines what is needed to get well. That’s when we work together and develop a plan. The perception that treatment is for a lifetime is very important. “Lifetime” means periodic check-ups. When treatment for a chronic disorder stops, symptoms become active: blood sugar becomes unstable, blood pressures rise, substance.
“Lifespan Recovery Management” removes the stigma from treatment and recovery. It can work with either a cognitive behavioral (SMART) or a spiritual (12-step) approach to wellness. Labels such as “alcoholic, and “addict” are not used.” We build upon “success,” not “failure.” Treatment and recovery is a process. We learn from our experiences.
