ABOUT MENDING FENCES
The mission of Mending Fences is to help each of our clients learn to live a happy and fulfilling life free from the bonds of addiction and co-occurring disorders. We strive to provide the most effective and comprehensive treatment available in a compassionate and supportive manner.
DUAL DIAGNOSIS RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER
Mending Fences is a true dual diagnosis program. The term dual diagnosis is used to describe people with problems with drug and/or alcohol as well as a co-existing mental illness such as anxiety and disorders of mood (e.g. depression and bipolar). The relationship between the two is complex, and the treatment of people with co-occurring disorders is more complicated than just treating individuals with only one of the conditions. People addicted to drugs are roughly twice as likely to suffer from mood and anxiety disorders as those in the general population, with the reverse also true.
SURVIVORS OF TRAUMA
The link between exposure to trauma and addiction is well established. Why would there be such a strong relationship between substance abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? The most obvious answer is that people who suffer from the emotional dysregulation associated with PTSD are trying to self-medicate to cope with these life-disrupting symptoms.
HOW DOES EQUINE FACILITATED PSYCHOTHERAPY (EFP) WORK AT MENDING FENCES?
Mending Fences is proud to provide and specialize in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy. This program is an integral part of the therapies we offer, including group therapy, individual therapy, and clinical care. During EFP, our clients work to break down emotional barriers and connect with their inner selves and gain the tools they need for recovery. EFP helps to:
People learn about themselves
Recognize non-verbal cues
Solidify sobriety
Encourage personal responsibility
We believe our clients will find great comfort and growth in this amazing connection with their equine partner.
